OUR Story: It was 2020 and the world was locked down for the Covid-19 pandemic...
While juggling a virtual performance for BroadwayWorld.com, the Covid 19 emergency, and my last semester at Taft College, "Tafticopa" was born. I casually mentioned on the last day of drama class that I planned on working on something in the future. A few people from the class seemed interested so I wrote a short 8 minute script and we had our first table read. It eventually evolved into a 78 page screenplay that we later filmed, with social distancing, 2 cameras, a cast of over 30 people, and a total budget of $3,000. I later adapted the screenplay into the book, and went deeper into the characters' lives, backstories, and motivations. None of this would be possible without the support of our Production Coordinator, Professor Leigh Golling, who has believed in this project from the beginning, Taft College, my wife, and the Gray family. All of the actors with the exception of a few key roles that we cast professionally through Breakdown Services, are actors and friends that I worked with before. I wanted to make a film where it could be wholesome, and also include people that look like my friends and people from my community. So more than half the cast is trans, and the entire cast is diverse. That's what makes Milagro in Tafticopa special. It shows the world as it can be, where we all belong and support each other. Welcome to Tafticopa, CA!
